NoHo Loft

New York, NY

Located in New York’s Noho East Historic District, this loft sits on a quaint tree-lined portion of the famous Bleecker Street and combines historic New York City architecture with the homeowner’s European style.

Built in 1893, the former commercial and industrial building once occupied by fur dealers and garment manufacturers was converted into lofts in the 1970’s. Later, the unit went through a rushed 1980’s renovation that covered the whole apartment in drywall. Wishing to expose its historic bones, the Leroy Street Studio Interiors team and architects from League Studio worked to uncover the apartment’s original brick and cast-iron details.

Starting with a newly blank slate, they felt liberated to reimagine the floorplan to include another bathroom, a powder room, and laundry. The designers also utilized a common Leroy Street trick, designing a second back kitchen to keep the front kitchen clean while entertaining. Even with these additions, the apartment’s open space is maximized and balanced with the family’s private areas.

A rich, layered material palette is used to create spaces that easily transition from one to the other and include durable yet sophisticated finishes. Rooms are filled with LSSinteriors-designed custom furniture and pieces found in Parisian markets that reflect an interest in embracing imperfection and allowing a space time to grow and change.

The finished apartment truly reflects the style of its European owner and New York’s abundant architectural history.
