Bay House

Westhampton Beach, NY

Situated in a flood plain on a barrier island, this house is elevated on piles, allowing the wetland landscape to run through the site. A wood boardwalk splits the house and opens onto a shaded elevated courtyard running the length of the site from the entry road out to the rear yard boat dock. The house’s massing is a composition of solid and void, angling outward to capture a panorama of the bay and forming an enclosed environment for respite and privacy.

Storage elements and built-in furniture along the perimeter walls, including a desk and wine-storage wall, heighten the sense of enclosure.
